Research and Planning: Weather 2

Last week we decided to start filming but decided to postpone it to the week after so that we could begin to start work on our film magazines. This week were going to start the filming on the locations of the teaser trailer and the main characters that will be introduced. However there has been a downfall of the weather this week as there has been snow so we was unable to start filming.

If the weather report for the next five days turns out to be correct then we will be able to start filming on the following days :
  • Sunday
  • Tuesday

Research and planning: Draft of film magazine

The draft of my film magazine is on the film teaser trailer that we will create. The colours will be red white black. I did the main character on the front of the magazine with the name of the film going across it. I also did two other films which were named at the bottom of the magazine, which was from the other two groups films. I added the slogan underneath the magazine name and added little bits to the magazine, for example 'Inside interviews with cast' and 'Plus - Steph Billance and more names'. I also added the issue date and the price of the magazine.

Research and Planning: Analysis of a film magazine 2

The other film magazine cover that we analysed was the film 'The Shinning.'

Conventions of the film magazine
  • The main picture again dominates the page. This showing a mans head being pushed through the door trying to get it.
  • The colour scheme of the magazine is again the same colour of red.
Narrative
  • The name and headlines do not again explain the narrative to the audience. It is to make the audience want to know more about the film so they will buy it.
  • The facial expressions of the characters show the audience that it will be a horror by he is pushing his head through the door and the way he is sweating.
Audience
  • I think the audience for this film will be aimed at adults.
  • the audience of this film is passive
  • The Socio-economic grouping of this film is E
  •  I don't think people in more of a high level grouping would want to watch this film.

Research and Planning: Analysis of a film magazine 1

Today we looked at film magazine covers that matched the genre of our film as we need to create our own magazine cover. As we are doing a horror so I chose to look at different horror films which are on magazine covers. The first one I chose to write about was 'The exorcist.'

Conventions of a film magazine.
  • The main picture shows a long shot of a scene in the film and a man stood there in black, which creates a mystery to the audience
  • The main colour scheme is red which suggests a horror
Narrative
  • The headlines and the subheadings don't really narrate to the audience much about the film as it's a suggestive seller as the reader will want to know more about the film
  • The man staring at the house suggests that something is going to happen in the house.
Audience
  • The audience of this film is passive
  • The Socio-economic grouping of this film is E
  • The age group for this film is for people over the ages of 15, but more for teenagers to the ages of 25. I don't think people in more of a high level grouping would want to watch this film.
  • The audience for this film I think will be more for the boys as I think that with the genre of horror more appeals to them

Research and Planning: Magazine Front Cover and Poster

I have now decided that I would now need to start thinking about my film magazine, by analysing front covers now for new films that have come out in the cinema. I also need to consider my layout and what will be put on my magazine cover and poster. I will be doing this in my free time so that I will not fall behind in my other work.

    Research and Planning: Storyboard Shots

As I am in charge of cinematography, I have considered analysing all the different shot types that i will be doing within each scene of the teaser trailer.

    For the first shot :
    • For the first shot in the trailer I want a close up for the ouji board with the people sat around it

    Second shot :

    • For the second shot I want a medium long shot for two characters in the trailer to having a conversation about one of the girls having second thoughts on the ouji board

    Third shot :

    • For the third shot I want another close up of the words 'would you mess with the unknown'

    Fouth shot :

    • For the Fourth shot I want a medium shot of the ouji board again and hear the voice of one of the characters shout no! When the ouji board chooses them

    Fifth shot :

    • For the fifth shot I want medium long shot of two of the characters in a bedroom and one of the girls doesn't feel well. The one that the ouji board chosen.

    Sixth shot :

    • For the sixth shot I want a long shot at a high angle of the girl that was chosen in bed

    Seventh shot :

    • For the seventh shot I want a close up of a door in the girls bedroom which I want to open slowly

    Eighth shot :

    • For the eighth shot I want a long shot of the girl rocking in her bedroom to show she is possessed

     Ninth shot :
    • For the ninth shot I want a close up of the girl with her eyes red and there to be blood dripping from her face

      Tenth shot :

      • For the tenth shot I want a medium shot of two people in the bedroom together. One of the women is the mum to the girl who is possessed. The girl who is possessed is in bed and the mother is talking over the top of her. In the scene I want the girl to spit blood at her mother.

      Eleventh shot :
      • For the eleventh shot I want a medium close up of the mother covered in blood

        Twelfth Shot :

        • For the twelfth shot I want the rest of the group who were at the beginning to be all sat on a church wondering about the girl who was possessed

        Thirteenth Shot :

        • The this shot I want a long shot of the girl possessed to be walking towards the group

        Fourteenth Shot :
        • For the next shot it want there to be a jump cut of the girl getting closer to the church

        Fifteenth Shot
        •  For this shot I want one of the group members to go over to the possessed girl and shout her name "steph"
        Sixteenth Shot :
        • I want a close up of the girl possessed
        Seventeenth Shot:
        • For this shot it want a shot to say " do you believe in"

        Eighteenth Shot :
        • For this I want an extreme close up of the girls eye to show she is possessed

        Nineteenth Shot :
        • For this I want the words "Evil" to show up on screen

        Twentieth Shot :
        • The last scene I want it to be the possessed girl trying to kill another girl

The last shot I want to be the cinema date

        Research and Planning: Weather

In our group this week we have decided to try and film some of the locations of our teaser trailer. We decided to do this now as we thought that it would get too much for us to handle when we have got all the actors ready as they will want to film there parts of the trailer. So we are filming the scenes where there will be now acting within them. We hope to film either at :
        • Newton Church or St Ann's Church
        • Megan's House
        • The streets in the dark
As we are doing this for this week I have looked on the BBC website and looked on the weather to see if the weather will be clear for us to start filming.

Research and Planning: Storyboard second draft

In our lesson today we developed the storyboard for our teaser trailer. We did this by adding more scenes into the storyboard by introducing by making the trailer longer and adding rhetorical questions within the trailer.

        Research and Planning: Meeting 2

In today's lesson me and Steph had another meeting about our storyboard. We decided that we need to add some more scenes in the storyboard to make the teaser trailer more understandable and longer so that the audience know what the story is about. As our teaser trailer before didn't have a strong storyline introduced in the trailer which now we have added. Also we wanted tomorrow jump cuts to the filming so had to create more scary parts to add in.

        Research and Planning: Micro elements

In our group we have different role to help making the teaser trailer easier to create within the time limit, I will be in charge of the cinematography which I will have to consider the different types of camera shots for example:
        • Long shots
        • Close up
        • High angle
        • Low angle
Megan will be in charge of Mise-en-scene and will have to consider the different elements to show the audience what type of genre the film is, for example:
        • Setting
        • Props
        • Costumes
        • Make-up
        • Colour
        • Lighting
        • Composition
Steph will be in charge of the editing in the teaser trailer to and will have to consider the different editing transitions that will be shown in the horror trailer, for example:
        • Straight cuts
        • Jump cuts
        • Fades and dissolves
        • Fades to black
        • Slow motion
        • Fast motion
We will all be in charge of the sound of the teaser trailer as we thought that as it is a horror film that it would be the most challenging element to do, we will need to consider the following:
        • Voice over
        • Soundtracks
        • Diagetic sounds
        • Non-Diagetic sounds
        • Sound effects

        Research and Planning: Cinematography

In our groups I will be in charge of cinematography. I will need to consider the different shot types that will be filmed in our teaser trailer to show the different parts of the trailer. I will need to show
        • Long shots to show the different locations
        • Close up to show the characters emotions
        • Eye level to show the characters faces when there talking
        • Birds eye to show the running of the characters
        • Extreme long shots to show the whole room and all the characters
        • High angles to show different settings in the trailer
        • Low angles to show the possessed girl
        • extreme Close up of the possessed girl Eg her eye

Research and Planning: Plan for the rest of the week

For the rest of the week I think that we will be:
        • Storyboard to be done by Fridays lesson and put on my blog
        • The name of the film
        • Find location for the filming and reccess
        • Risk assessment
        • Cast auditions

Research and Planning: Codes And Conventions Of A FIlm Poster

From doing an analysis of a film poster today I have realised the things that I will have to include in my horror film poster. I will have to include a big picture for the main character in the film, but they will also have to be showing that the girl is possessed. Also I need to consider the colour of the poster, adding tints to the poster, for example a grey shade over the top of the poster to show that it is dull. Also I need to add a slogan at the top of the page to match the type of horror film it is going to be.

Research and Planning: Film Poster Analysis

For my film poster I am going to do an analysis on the film poster "Paranormal Activity"

        Genre

The genre of this poster is a horror. By the colour of the title of the film is in red which represents blood. Also it stands out more with the black background. It also shows that it is a horror by the picture being in the corner if the room in night vision.

        Narrative

The narrative for this film poster I think does show that it is a horror film by the way the by the way the picture is in night vision. I also think that there will be something that happens in the house which is why they have got the cameras in the room

        Media language / layout

For the layout of this horror poster  "Paranormal Activity" I think that it obviously shows a horror by the way that the camera is in the corner of the room. It uses a slogan at the top of the page " The most anticipated horror event of the year..." This shows the media language of a horror film by saying that people have been wanted to watch it for ages
this in a few different films for example :
        • Blair Witch
        • Saw 3

        Audience

I think that "Paranormal Activity" is for teenagers as it is a horror film. I think it would appeal to teenagers more than any other age group as I think it will be something they will be more interested in.

It also shows this in "Saw 3" to show the audience that the film would be for as by looking at the film poster it shows three bones covered in blood to show that it is the third film.

        Representation

I think the representation in this film will be aimed more at teenagers to 20 year old people as I think that more teenagers will watch horror films. I think the three bones in the poster to create more of the horror be a mystery of what will happen.

        Research and Planning: Location Availability

For our production we need to film most of our teaser trailer in someones house and around a church area. Although due to the schedule of the other members of our group, we need to come up with a schedule that fits around those lessons.

        Monday, 8 November 2010

        Research and Planning: Storyboard

In our lesson we did our first attempt on creating our storyboard. We drew some rough pictures on some cut out pieces of paper of how me wanted the teaser trailer to look like, we added :
        • The certificate of the film
        • Slogans
        • The date or release
        • The production company E.g. Dreamworks
        • Shows images of peoplw possessed
But we need to add something more into the teaser trailer storyboard as I think the teaser trailer wont be long enough and wont show any of the story to the audience, I think that we need to add :
        • A main character
        • A story for the horror for example someone getting possessed

Research and Planning: Costume and prop list

Within our teaser trailer we need to consider the costumes and props that will be used on the set of the filming. The costumes of the characters and the props used in the background:

        Costumes:
        • Bed Gown/ Nighty
        • Fake Blood
        • Red Contact Lenses
        • Make-up
        Props
        • Bed
        • Ouji Board
        • Chains
        • Knife
        • Mud
        • Cross

Research and Planning: Equipment and software list

For our production to make our teaser trailer the equipment we will need is:
        • Final cut pro
        • I-movie
        • Photoshop for the poster and magazine cover
        • Garage band
        • Microphone
        • Camera
        • Tripods
        • Lighting

        Research and Planning: Meeting

Today in group meeting, me, Steph and Megan, we came up with our idea of our plot of our teaser trailer. we did this by creating a rough storyboard. We have also decided the roles for what we are all doing in the group. I will be doing the Cinematography, Steph will be doing the editing and Megan will be doing the Mise-En-Scene. We will all be doing the sound together as we all thought that it would be the hardest part of the coursework to do so we thought that we would split it up between us to make it easier, because we are doing a horror movie there will be music all the way through the teaser trailer so then all the music will have to have alot of suspense within it.

        Research and Planning: Production Schedule

For this lesson in my group we put together a production schedule so that our coursework will be all in order and so that we will not run out of time for the deadline for the teaser trailer, magazine front cover and the film poster. Choosing days and dates for when each of the tasks that have to be completed.

Research and Planning: Analysis of Teaser Trailer At The Cinema

For our research we decided to go to the cinema with the other people in the group, we went to watch the film 'Buried'. In the cinema we watch a few teaser trailers before the film came on. I noticed that the teaser trailers matched the type of genre of the film, with SAW 3D being the main trailer being played as it was played twice but with a different trailer. Paranormal Activity was also played within the teaser trailers. I noticed that the other teaser trailers weren't as long as the main one as I noticed this as SAW 3D was played twice.

        Research and Planning: Audience Preference

For our teaser trailer our audience preference is for teenagers as we thought that it would target them the most. I think it will be targeted at both genders, in the trailer there will be a group of people in and there will be alot of running about and screaming.
