Evaluation: Question 4

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

SLR Camera
We used the LSR camera as we thought that it would be easier to use and the quality of the picture would be better than using the Sony Dv camera. We used the cameras to take the pictures for the film magazine and the film poster.

Photoshop
We used photoshop to create the film magazine and film poster. Using this allowed me to create a better quality poster which looked professional as the product was suppost to look realistic for a sale of the product. Photoshop allowed me to be able to cut out the pictures cleanly and then able to rotate or change the size. Also there were many different ways which I could use Photoshop to allow me to match the genre of my magazine and poster. I used the smudge tool to smudge the title of the film to make I look scary. In the magazine it enabled me to get fonts from websites which I could them upload to my magazine.

Blogger
We used blogger to record our planning and research, whereas last year we used PowerPoint. Blogger made it easier to upload pictures and easily add a post from wherever you are due to it being on the internet.

Prezi
We used Prezi for our publication plan to record the distribution detailed. this is a good piece of software as it was easy to use and was able to upload pictures and videos if i wanted to with ease.

GarageBand
We used GarageBand to used for our Podcast and to create the music for our teaser trailer. I thought this was a good piece of software as there were many different sounds that we were able to use and record and upload our own. I thought that it was difficult at the beginning to get a grasp to the technology but like most programs the more you use it the more you get the hang of it.

I-Movie
We used I-Movie to put the teaser trailer together, by changing the length of the shots and editing the film so that it creates a flow to the trailer. I changed the timings of the film to create the suspense in the trailer and also added some fade outs so that the trailer doesn't look at jumpy. This is a good piece of software as it was easy to use and we were able to create a good effect to the trailer.

Internet
We used the internet to use Blogger, You Tube, Prezi and Dafont websites. We used Youtube in our planning and research to look up other teaser trailers which matched our genre of our trailer, which we embedded and uploaded onto our blogs. We also used You Tube to upload our own teaser trailer onto it so we could get some feedback on it. I think that You Tube was and easy piece of software as we had already used it in the past. We also used the website Dafont which enabled us to use and look for all the different fonts which we could us for our magazine and poster. I thought that this was a good website to use as it was easy to download the fonts and upload them onto Photoshop.

Evaluation: Question 3

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

I have added a video of my drafts and final pieces of my film magazine and film poster with the feedback which I have received and to show the changes which I have made to create my final piece.

I also added our final teaser trailer and talked about the feedback we received when we was creating the drafts and said how we have changed them to create out final piece of our film teaser trailer.

Evaluation: Question 2

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?

I have added a video which i created on I movie of my film poster and film magazine to show how I think that the had matched the ganre of the film teaser trailer.

I also added screen grabs of the trailer and commented on them as I was in charge of cinematography and explained why I used them shots.

Evaluation: Question 1

In what ways does your media products use, develop and challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Teaser Trailer

Use

  • We used the possessed character being a girl like in the last exorcism
  • Used the typical bloody scenes of the trailer, for example the dead body on the floor
  • We used a priest in the trailer as to match the genre of the horror as have seen it in the film the last exorcism
  • Used the same titles as the Last Exorcism to get the audience to know about ouji boards.
  • Have used a lot of close ups to show the change in Steph's face, also used high angles to show the dead bodies and used long shots to show the characters running and Steph chasing them.
  • I used the binary opposites of good vs evil with the possessed girl and the priest
  • I also used the possessed victim as a girl
  • I used the sound as a creepy sound going through it to match the genre
  • I used jump cuts to show the fast pace of the trailer
 Develop

  • We developed by usesing the paranormal activity light blue tint to the piece
  • Also by having the writing on the mirror
  • We also developed the teaser trailer by using the shot from blair witch which was  low angle close up of stephs face
  • We also developed the zooms of the shots by adding more zoom ins to show the area and around Steph and then her facial expressions to show that she is possessed.
  • We developed the flashes in the teaser trailer to show the different parts in the film
  • Also used jump shots to show the scene in a faster way to show the audience a glimpse of the film
  • Also used screams and the friends of the possessed girl getting worried
Challenge

  • Challenged the typical horror genre by having Steph as the final girl but with a twist as Steph is also the villain in the teaser trailer
  • Also by using a ouji board as not a lot of teaser trailers use ouji boards as a method of communication
  • We challenged it by using a scene in the church which not a lot of horror films do
  • Also by
Magazine Front cover

Use

  • For my poster I used the same style of the three colours which a magazine cover would have. I used red black and white for my style of colours
  • Also I used the same style as I added more films mention as a film magazine would have
  • I used the same style as the main film of the magazine would have the the main picture of the front of the page
  • I used the same layout of a masthead being at the top of the age
  • Also by using the font sizes in the correct places - with the main story being the biggest and the sub stories being the smallest
  • I added the slugline to the magazine
Develop

  • I developed the magazine by adding a saying from one of the sub films which is a common saying which people would know
  • Also I have developed it by adding different films to the bottom of the page and writing a rating about them next to it
Challenge

  • I have challenged it by adding a little cross to the bottom of the page to split up the screen and add a bit more colour to the page
  • Also by making the main picture a close up of stephs face is different to other film magazine picture
  • Also I added the Two covers to collect to make people want to buy the magazine more which is uncommon in magazines
Poster

Use

  • I used the style from the American haunting picture with the possessed girl upside down on the page
  • I used the same style of fonts which a horror genre would use
  • I used dull colours to match the genre
  • Used fonts to match the gothic church horror
  • I added the cast and crew to the poster
  • I added the slugline to the poster
  • Also added the charcters names to the poster
Develop

  • I developed the poster by adding the background to be black and white an washed out
  • I used the background of a writing on a wall in the church which I used as the background so it didnt look as plain
Challenged

  • I challenged the poster by adding blue to the writing at the top of the page. To make the characters names stand out more on the page but wanted to add a different colour than white
  • Also I challenged it by using the washed out background but with the main picture being in colour.
  • I also used the gradient tool to make the photo look like it coming out of the darkness to show that she is possessed
  • Changed the place where the cast and crew would be as I put it down the side whereas they are normally on the bottom
  • I challenged it by putting the characters names in a different position down the side of the poster

Research and planning: Final Products

In this lesson I have also developed the final draft of my film magazine cover which I now feel they are completed. I have also finished my teaser trailer which I have uploaded.

research and planning: Film Poster

This is my final design for my film poster. I changed the background to a picture that we took on the church, which was a close up of the church floor. I changed it as the picture that I wanted to be of Steph didn't look right with the background picture. I changed it to a plain background as I wanted the picture to stand out on the page, and with the other background it drew the attention to the church rather than the main character. I have also moved around the title and the slogan to the poster from top to bottom. I have added the characters to the trailer to the top of the page and I have also moved the credits to the side of the side of the poster to not make the poster seem bare on the sides.

This is my draft of my film magazine. I wanted to have a close up of the main character and to have the background and parts of Steph's face in darkness to create mystery to the film. I wanted the title to be in red to match the black and the smaller writing in white to stand out.
